We knew our champion well before our weekend in Phil's Glasgow, but that wasn't going to detract from the occasion. It was a much better attended event than last year's unofficial Superburrl Zero. About twenty people crammed into the flat meant it was like this...
...as opposed to last year when Super Bowl XLI visited Glasgow and it was like this...
Of course the balance between a filled room and a room filled with people who don't really like American football is a difficult one to get right. The truth is some people just couldn't get past the novelty of so many stoppages, couldn't get past the idea of "quarters", couldn't get past the idea that it's kinda difficult to throw a ball to someone 30 yards away when in 2 seconds a 350lb black guy is about to own you and your family. But for these people (the people who don't like American football, not black people) at least there were damn good sandwiches.
So apart from the cold cuts, here's what happened:
New York Giants 17
New England Patriots 14
The game itself was pretty tense and to those of you who don't know how big an upset this was, don't worry. I don't understand it either. I mean, this New York team wasn't all that good - the Bears are definitely better than them! Really! And this New England team? All I can say is it must suck to be the best team ever and not win the Super Bowl.
Anyway, season's over now and you know what, I feel what you're going through. I'm bummed too. It's a long wait until September 2008 but I guess we all have no other option but to progress to the off-season. We get a chance to think about where we went wrong and how we can improve so that, like Ports this year, we too might have a chance of holding aloft that beautiful crystal vase that is the Lomburrdi Trophy.
See you all for Superburrl II
Re: presentation
By MichaelWhat a fine NFL commissioner CD would make.
Congrats
By PhilipPorts has been immortalised on this page.
Did you notice that almost everyone sitting on the right-hand side of the room actually understood American Football, whereas everyone on the left hadn't a clue? The medics were sitting on the left, and the frisbee players were sitting on the right. Draw your own conclusions.
Re: Superbowl XLII - Superburrl I

I've even made a new facebook friend.
Re: Superbowl XLII - Superburrl I
By PhilipYeah, it seems a shame that the Patriots didn't take it after such a great season. I'm just glad it was such a great Super Bowl game.
